Simon Leisure Consulting

Richard Simon has more than 25 years experience in sport and recreation planning.

Richard worked initially in various management positions with three Victorian local government authorities (Melbourne, Knox and Moreland) between 1985 and 1999, then for eight and half years with a private leisure planning consultancy.  Whilst in this placement, Richard contributed significantly to building up the reputation of the company to its current position as one of Australia’s leading sports and recreation consultancies.

In May 2008, Richard established Simon Leisure Consulting to enable him to continue to work within a framework that has a focus on delivering clients a personal and responsive service, whilst at the same time allowing him to pursue the range of leisure planning projects that he most enjoys working on.
Richard is based in Victoria but has completed many projects interstate, including NSW, Queensland and South Australia, and has a good insight into the different needs of rural communities compared to the needs of communities in urban areas.

Since 2000, Richard has completed in excess of:

• 15 municipal-wide recreation / leisure plans.
• 25 master plans for a combination of sports and recreation reserves, established reserves and Greenfield sites, and single-use reserves and reserves with multiple facilities and user groups.
• 30 sports facility planning and feasibility projects, involving facilities as diverse as sports fields and netball courts, to skate parks, indoor stadiums and swimming pools.
• 15 research and consultation assignments.
